It's our big spring fundraiser made possible by volunteers and donations to help Aikane o Nu‘uanu raise funds for Nu‘uanu Elementary. Family Fun Night is back! This year's theme is Nu‘uanu Candyland and will take place on Friday, May 13. In light of the recent COVID-19 surge, our long-awaited event will be modified this year to ensure the safety of our school ‘ohana. Family Fun Night will only be open to current Nu‘uanu Elementary School students, faculty/staff and their IMMEDIATE families (from the same household).

Aloha! We’re excited to announce that planning for Nuunau Elementary Schools family fun night is underway! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some modifications will be put into place for the safety of our school community. To stay up to date with what is happening with this year's fair, please see below. Q: What is Family Fun Night?

A: Family Fun Night is the cornerstone event at Nu‘uanu Elementary School. The event is hosted by Aikane O Nu‘uanu, Nu‘uanu Elementary schools’ parent-teacher organization to bring the Nu‘uanu Elementary school community together and as a fundraiser to purchase items needed for the school. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s event will be modified to ensure the safety of all attendees but is sure to be a “sweet” event. The night will include games, food, a silent auction, white elephant/plant booth, and a bookfair.

Q: When is the 2022 Family Fun Night?

A: Family fun night will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022, from 2:15 (immediately following the end of the school day) to 8:00 p.m.

Q: What is this year’s Family Fun Night theme?

A: This year’s theme is Nu‘uanu Candyland. The theme was submitted by 5th grader Katelyn Ewing and won by a vote of his/her peers.

Q: Who can attend the 2022 Family Fun Night?

A: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ONLY current Nuuanu elementary school students, faculty/staff and their immediate families (from the same household)will be allowed to attend.

Q: What safety protocols will be in place?

A: With COVID-19 still a concern and to protect all attendees, the following safety protocols will be put into place:

  1. This year’s event is open to current Nuuanu elementary school students, faculty/staff and their immediate families (from the same household),

  2. While masks are no longer required outdoors on DOE facilities (as of April 1, 2022), we highly encourage families to wear their masks while near other families and not actively eating,

  3. Families should adhere to proper social distancing protocols,

  4. This year’s event will not include high touch items such as the popular bounce house, massage vendors and craft stations,

  5. Families are asked to adhere to the DOE daily wellness check

  6. Hand sanitizers will be placed throughout the event to encourage continued sanitation

  7. Games will be spaced apart to allow families to socially distance

Q: What will the money raised be used for?

A: All proceeds will be used to partially fund a new playground, for new classroom furniture and technology upgrades on campus.


Q: What donations are needed for Family Fun Night?

A: We need donation support to make family fun night a success. You can support by:


  1. Donating money. Checks may be written to Aikane O Nuuanu and dropped off at the main office. Donations of more than $250 will receive a tax-deductible letter. If you’re interested in a corporate sponsorship, contact ffn@nuuanuschool.org.


  1. Donating goods. We need a variety of items for the event from spam, rice, liter soda and much more. Please sign up here to donate.


  1. Donating silent auction items. Silent auction is the largest fundraising opportunity at Family Fun Night. We are looking for donations of all types – gift cards, jewelry, hotel stays, VRBO rentals, airline miles, etc. We also encourage individuals or groups of parents that would like to put together a fun themed basket with our “Nuuanu Candyland” theme this year. Q: How do I volunteer for Family Fun Night?

A: Family Fun Night is only made possible by the volunteers of current and past Nuuanu families and our community members who come together and help to manage the booths. And after a two-year hiatus we need all the help we can get.

Q: How do I purchase scripts for Family Fun Night?

A: The pre-sale for scripts started on Monday, April 11, 2022. Each pre-sale order of $50 received by April 22, 2022 will receive a coupon redeemable at Family Fun Night for an additional $5 in scripts. A flyer was sent home with each student containing instructions on how to purchase scripts during the pre-sale. We will also have scripts available for purchase at the script booth the day of the event. Please contact NuuanuFinance@gmail.com for more information.

Q: What food will be available for purchase?

A: Food will be available to purchase at the event, including Mac n Cheese bowl, Rigatoni Bolognese bowl, chili and rice bowl, teriyaki chicken bowl, kalua pig and cabbage bowl, spam musubi, Asato family sorbet, and cotton candy.


Q: My child attends after-school care, where do I pick them up on Family Fun Night?

A: If your child attends the YMCA after school care program, parents may pick up their child at the kindergarten/first grade playground area.
