Furlough Day Program at Nu’uanu Elementary School
Nu’uanu Families,

Aikane o Nu’uanu is pleased to offer an all-day program at Nu’uanu Elementary School on furlough days. For the 7 furlough days that occur during the Fall Semester (Oct. – Dec.), the program will be similar to our Waiver Day/Intersession Program, but will incorporate a larger educational component. For the 10 furlough days that occur during the Spring Semester (Jan. – May), we would like to offer a program that would allow Nu’uanu teachers to continue to work with their own students on furlough days. We have spoken with the teachers and they are supportive of this plan. Unfortunately, there are many issues to work through, most of them pertaining to the terms of the new teachers’ contract, before we will know whether a program like this would be permitted.

We will keep you updated on our progress on this option. If we are not able to offer a teacher-led option for the Spring Semester, please be assured that Aikane will continue to offer some type of all-day program for the remaining furlough days.
